XXV INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL LANZAROTE 2025
Official Sections Participation Rules
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
1. All producers or filmmakers who own the rights to the works they submit may participate.
2. All films will be accepted regardless of their original recording format, but the delivery formats must be .mov or .mp4 only.
3. Only works produced in 2024 and not presented in previous editions of the Festival may be submitted for this call. Exceptions are children's short films, for which works from 2023 will also be accepted.
4. The maximum duration of the works will be:
- National Fiction Shorts Section: 25 minutes, including credits
- International Fiction Shorts Section: 25 minutes, including credits
- Animation Shorts Section: 25 minutes, including credits
- Documentary Shorts Section: 30 minutes, including credits
- Canarian Shorts Section: 25 minutes, including credits
- Children's Shorts Section: 15 minutes, including credits
REGISTRATION
5. The registration period ends on January 1, 2025.
6. Participants must register in one of the six possible sections or categories:
- National Fiction Shorts Section (only Spain)
- International Fiction Shorts Section (all countries except Spain)
- Animation Shorts Section (all countries, including Spain)
- Documentary Shorts Section (all countries, including Spain)
- Canarian Shorts Section (only Canary Islands)
Requirements to enroll in the Canary Islands section:
- Directed by a person or persons residing in the Canary Islands.
- Born in the Canary Islands.
- Filmed, at least 50%, in the Canary Islands.
- Produced by individuals or production companies whose tax headquarters are in the Canary Islands.
- At least 50% of the filming and production team must be residents of the Canary Islands.
To be considered for the Canary Islands section, at least 1 out of the 5 requirements must be met.
For fiction works, the section in which they are enrolled will be determined by the country of production of the short film. In the case of co-productions, it will be determined by the majority percentage of the production.
- Children's Shorts Section:
- Reflective, vindicative, social, educational films... The short films can be of any theme and genre, not exceeding 15 minutes in duration, and specifically aimed at an audience of children and youth aged between 3 and 17 years. Short films from any part of the world will be accepted, provided the language is Spanish, either as the original language or dubbed. Despite not having a monetary prize, a winning short film will be designated, voted by the children attending the screenings.
7. Pre-registration will be done exclusively through an ONLINE procedure, and participants must register the short film through one of the following platforms, in addition to completing all required information:

8. The projection copy can be sent through platforms such as VIMEO, WETRANSFER, DRIVE, or similar.
9. The copy submitted in this registration must be the final and definitive copy of the short film. In case of selection, no new versions of the submitted short film will be accepted.
10. The payment of the viewing platform fees is entirely the participant's responsibility and does not guarantee participation in the Festival's official section.
11. Films registered in their original version and containing dialogues in a language other than Spanish or English must be accompanied by subtitles in Spanish or English.
12. No additional documentation needs to be sent until the participant is notified via email that the short film has been selected for the corresponding official section.
FINAL SELECTION
13. From all the works received during the registration period, a committee designated by the organization will make a preliminary selection of up to 30 short films in each section. The committee's decisions are final.
14. Works reflecting the reality of women in situations where obstacles to equality with men still exist will be especially valued. Audiovisuals that depict discrimination and human rights violations against women and/or girls, innovative experiences of empowerment, and the fight against social exclusion of women and girls, as well as those promoting or reflecting the advancement of equal opportunities between men and women, will be valued. Works highlighting the contribution of men to achieving gender equality, co-responsibility, and the reconciliation of personal, work, and family life, etc., will also be valued.
15. The organization will personally and in writing (to the contact email provided during registration) notify all participants of the official selection results before public announcement. This notification period will be at least three weeks before the start of the Festival. This list will also be published on the Festival's official website ([www.festivaldecinedelanzarote.com](http://www.festivaldecinedelanzarote.com)) before April 5, 2025.
16. Once notified, selected participants must send the required information and documentation not included in the platforms to lanzaroteinternacionalfilmfest@gmail.com before April 10, 2025. In any case, a projection file of the selected short film with a minimum resolution of "1920 x 1080" in "mov or mp4" format, preferably with the "H.264" codec, must be submitted.
17. SUBTITLES:
- Works with dialogues or texts in Spanish must include English subtitles, in .srt format or embedded in the image.
- Works with dialogues or texts in English must include Spanish subtitles, in .srt format or embedded in the image.
- Works with dialogues or texts in a language other than Spanish or English must include both Spanish and English subtitles (double subtitles), in .srt format or embedded in the image.
Non-compliance with this rule will result in the disqualification of the work. However, the festival organization offers the option to create these subtitles for an additional cost of €10 per work, which must be paid before the work's screening.
JURY
18. To determine the winner in each section, the organization will appoint a specific jury for each section, composed of three members linked to the field of culture and cinema. Except for the children's short film section, where the children themselves will choose the winning work.
19. The jury will be appointed one week before the start of the Festival, and their decisions will be final.
20. The jury may declare the prize void.
AWARDS
21. There will only be one winning short film per category, although the Jury may designate one or more special mentions in each category.
22. The winning short film in each section will receive a prize of €1,500.
23. All monetary prizes are subject to legal withholdings.
GENERAL
24. The XXV International Film Festival of Lanzarote will take place from May 15 to 24, 2025.
25. All received works will become part of the Festival's archive.
26. Producers and directors authorize the use of excerpts from the selected works (maximum 1 minute) for the promotion of the Festival in any media.
27. Producers and directors of the submitted works authorize the use of the works for screening within the various sections of the Festival if deemed appropriate by the organization.
28. Submitting the work within the established deadlines implies acceptance of these rules.
29. Any doubts arising from the interpretation of these rules will be resolved by the Festival's Organization.
30. The organization commits to treating the personal data of participants according to Article 12 of the Organic Law 15/1999, of December 13, on the Protection of Personal Data (LOPD).
31. The International Film Festival of Lanzarote collaborates with the Spanish Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences to pre-select candidates for the Goya Awards in the category of Best National Short Film and Best Documentary Short Film.
The organization reserves the right to modify the Festival dates, cancel or partially or fully suspend the exhibition of selected works and the activities developed during it due to force majeure. The organization reserves the right to change some aspects of these rules due to force majeure or the current health situation.
